Tata Motors is getting ready to bring back a legend. The Tata Sierra is making a comeback in a bold and modern way. And it’s not coming alone. This time, the Sierra will arrive in both electric (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) versions. The EV version will come first, most likely around Diwali 2025. The ICE variant will follow a few months later.
The SUV has already made its debut in pre-production form at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year. It has also been seen on Indian roads during test runs, showing off a lot of its design and features.
Triple-Screen Setup Grabs All the Attention
One thing that clearly stands out in the Sierra test mule is its triple-screen dashboard. This is the first time Tata is offering this in any of its models. Each screen measures 12.3 inches. One is for the driver’s instrument cluster, the second for the infotainment unit, and the third one is for the front passenger.
It’s a big step for Tata, putting it up against premium rivals. This setup feels quite similar to the one seen in Mahindra’s new XUV 9e, which entered the market recently.
Feature List Looks Very Premium
From what we’ve seen so far, Tata isn’t holding back on features. The Sierra will come with a four-spoke steering wheel, a dual-tone dashboard, wireless phone charging, and a large panoramic sunroof. It will also offer ventilated front seats and a Harman sound system for a better cabin experience.
For comfort, the Sierra will be available in two layouts. A 5-seater version will have a regular rear bench. The 4-seater version will offer two captain seats at the back for a more luxurious feel.
Borrowing Safety from Harrier EV
The new Sierra is expected to come with several safety features from the Harrier EV. These include a 540-degree surround-view camera, an HD rear-view mirror, Level 2 ADAS tech, and seven airbags. This makes the Sierra not just stylish, but also very safe.
However, it won’t get everything from the concept model. Some things like the roof rails, star-shaped alloys, and the B-pillar kink might not make it to the final production version.
Powertrain Options for Both ICE and EV Models
The ICE-powered Sierra is likely to come with the same 1.5-litre turbocharged GDI petrol engine and the 2.0-litre diesel engine used in the Harrier and Safari. Buyers may get to choose between manual and automatic transmissions.
As for the EV version, it could get a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup just like the Harrier EV. Battery options may also be similar, offering a mix of performance and good range.
Positioned Above the Curvv in Tata’s Lineup
The new Sierra will sit above the Tata Curvv in the brand’s SUV portfolio. But unlike the original Sierra from the 90s, this version will not offer a 7-seater setup. Tata is going with 4-seater and 5-seater formats only. This shows a shift towards more premium and comfort-focused seating.
Tata is clearly planning to make a strong statement with the return of the Sierra. With both ICE and EV powertrains, luxury interiors, and bold styling, it’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting launches of the year.
