MG has revealed the updated MG ZS Hybrid in global markets. This SUV is known as Astor in India. The new version brings a fresh design, more features, and most importantly, a strong hybrid powertrain. With the rising popularity of hybrid vehicles, this move puts MG directly in competition with cars like the Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara.
Let’s take a closer look at what this new hybrid SUV offers and why it’s creating buzz.
Powerful Hybrid Setup With Impressive Numbers
Under the hood, the MG ZS Hybrid carries a 1.5-litre petrol engine. On its own, this engine produces 102 PS of power and 128 Nm of torque.
But the big news is the electric motor that supports it. The motor delivers 136 PS and a strong 250 Nm. Together, the combined output stands at 195 PS and 465 Nm. These numbers are quite solid for a compact SUV and should translate into strong on-road performance.
The top speed is limited to 167 kmph, and MG claims a 0-100 kmph time of 8.7 seconds. That makes it one of the quicker SUVs in the hybrid space.
Drivers also get three driving modes and three energy regeneration levels, allowing better control over efficiency and performance depending on the situation.
Sportier Design With Sharper Details
The updated ZS Hybrid gets a fresh front look. MG has redesigned the front fascia to look sportier and sharper than before. The new LED projector headlights, daytime running lights, and reworked tail lamps help give it a more premium and stylish appeal.
There are six body colour options to choose from. These include Arctic White, Black Pearl, Monument Silver, Hampstead Grey, Battersea Blue, and Dynamic Red.
The car also comes with two wheel size options – 17-inch and 18-inch alloys depending on the trim. These updates help the ZS look modern and confident.
Premium Features With Safety First Approach
The MG ZS Hybrid+ is offered in two trims – SE and Trophy. While both come well-equipped, the Trophy trim adds some extra comfort. You get black leather seats, heated front seats, 6-way electric driver seat adjustment, and a heated steering wheel.
Tech lovers will be happy to know that Level-2 ADAS is now standard. This includes key features like adaptive cruise control, active emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and rear cross traffic alert.
Other safety highlights include six airbags, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, and electronic stability control. MG seems to be serious about both comfort and safety in this hybrid offering.
Indian Launch Expected In 2025
While this model has been launched globally, there’s good news for Indian buyers too. MG, now working with JSW, is expected to bring this updated model to India as the new Astor Hybrid in 2025.
It will go head-to-head with popular hybrid SUVs in the market. And with its feature list and powerful setup, it could appeal to buyers looking for a tech-loaded, eco-friendly option.
The expected price in India is around ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom). With strong hybrid performance, sharp design and full-loaded features, it could be a strong value-for-money option in the mid-size SUV category.
