The hybrid SUV space in India is heating up. Both Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are getting serious about the segment. With rising fuel prices and stricter emission norms, hybrids offer a smart middle path. Not fully electric, not fully petrol either, they promise better efficiency and lower emissions.
Let’s take a look at the upcoming hybrid SUVs from these two auto giants.
Maruti Suzuki Escudo – A New Name Between Brezza and Grand Vitara
Maruti is preparing to launch a new five-seater SUV. It is expected to be called the Escudo. Positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara, this model will likely be sold through Arena showrooms.
The Escudo may offer more cabin space than the Brezza. It is also expected to come with two hybrid engine options. One will be the familiar 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol, and the other could be a 1.5L strong-hybrid setup.
This SUV might offer a good mix of city comfort and long-distance efficiency.
New-Gen Hyundai Creta With Hybrid Power
Hyundai is working on the next-generation Creta, which is internally named SX3. It may launch by 2027 with a completely new design inside and out.
A big update will be the strong hybrid system. This setup will likely pair a 1.5L petrol engine with an electric motor and a larger battery. This combo is aimed at giving better mileage and more torque during acceleration.
The new Creta hybrid could be one of Hyundai’s most fuel-efficient SUVs yet.
Hyundai’s New C-SUV With Three Rows
Hyundai plans to introduce a new 3-row SUV. It will be positioned between the Alcazar and Tucson. This model is expected to roll out from Hyundai’s new factory in Talegaon.
Though technical details are limited, a strong hybrid system is likely. It may share parts with the upcoming hybrid Creta. Launch timeline points to 2027.
Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Coming In 2028
The big, bold Hyundai Palisade is also getting a hybrid variant for India. Expected in 2028, this flagship SUV may be assembled locally.
Under the hood, it could use a 2.5L turbo petrol engine working with dual electric motors. The price will be on the higher side, as it will sit at the top of Hyundai’s SUV range.
Fronx Hybrid and Maruti’s Micro SUV
Maruti is also cooking up something for the compact SUV crowd. The Fronx might get a hybrid version using a new in-house developed strong hybrid setup.
Also, a micro SUV is expected to launch soon, which could also carry this tech. Maruti wants to offer hybrids not just in big SUVs but in smaller, budget-friendly models too.
With these launches, both brands are preparing to offer more choices for buyers looking for efficiency without giving up power or convenience.
